Window Light

Brilliant Way to Use Window Light as Your Overhead Light Source

Overhead Light- one of the most effective and beautiful way of emphasizing the subject of a portrait are also one of the most expensive. This video will help you get the same effect of an overhead light with a much affordable solution.

Fashion photographer Lindsay Alder, who’s well known for her inventive tutorials, posted this short but really creative video about how she uses natural light — from a window — as an overhead/high key light source. Not only is it dirt cheap, but it’s also pretty novel use of everyday materials.

All she did was have her subject sit in front of an elevated window. She then placed an ordinary white cloth behind the model. To focus the light and bump up the contrast, she also placed two black boards on either side of her model. This technique is not only highly replicable but also a quick solution for using light you’ll always have.

Hope it helps!
