According to the folks at Fotoseeds, there are two paths to creating sustainability in the photography world. There is the image-making route of the hobbyist where one’s photography expresses one’s passion and creativity. And the path of the professional where one’s photography must make one’s living. Everyone starts as an amateur, but not every photographer has the desire and/or prudence to sustain a business.
In order to ensure a marketplace that’s fair to all photographers, every amateur photographer should study this infographic and decide how exactly they wish to continue with their passion. Is your work solely meant to please you and express your vision? Or does your vision and voice allow for the negotiation and adaptability required to maintain a business?
