“The deeper you go, the better pictures you’ll take.” I’ve asked many street photographers about what’s the most important advice they could give to other photographers, and all of them in effect have echoed that above quote taken from this trailer for Everybody Street. It’s a beautiful sentence. It’s balanced. And its metaphor perfectly illustrates what I believe is the soul of street photography.
Watch this trailer and you come out feeling dirty. You’ll feel stuck in something thick and your heart will sink. (Perhaps, I exaggerate, but you get the point.) Street photography is meant to be gritty, meant to be strident, pungent, contentious, foul, and whatever else. It’s truth captured for a stupid second. How could you not photograph it?
