3D Look Into One of the Most Profound Photos Ever Taken

The Hubble Ultra Deep Field and 3D Visualization

13 billion years ago from the darkest part of our night sky, tiny light particles had started their journey to Earth. These photons took so long and were so few that they were thought to be nonexistent. Many even thought only darkness would register when the Hubble telescope pointed its sensor to this stretch of sky called the Ultra Deep Field.

But to their surprise, when Hubble had finished photographing this section — which was no bigger than the Big Dipper — astronomers had found a new horizon of the universe. Inside it were over 3000 galaxies, billions of miles wide, containing hundreds of billions of stars, in the space of a cartographic fingernail!

Take the plunge into this 3D visualization of one the most humbling photographs ever taken!
